 Early Literacy @ School

The Washington State Early Learning and Development Guidelines were written for families to get information about their child's development.  I like families to have their own copy of this document because there is space for you to write notes about your own child's actions and behaviors, along with a lot of ideas for activities you can use to nurture and encourage specific skills.

This document outlines the helps support professional educators' understanding of emergent and early literacy.  In addition, there are rubrics which can help you align these pathways with your curriculum and assessment tools.

Children's Storybooks

Having a conceptual understanding of phonological awareness and the foundational aspect in emergent and early literacy is vital to our professional understanding of how young children learn to read.  These activities provided by Reading Rockets are helpful strategies to use in your classroom while also building your knowledge even further.
