 SEL @ School

Another site developed in partnership with the Public Broadcasting Service and local PBS stations, PBS Learning Media is free standards-aligned videos, interactive media, and lessons plans for educators.  Materials are filtered by subject, type, and grade level.  An example of a social studies lesson for Pre-K students was a video entitled, “How Different Families Celebrate: Día de los Muertos”.  Clicking on the video link quickly brings up a video with the ability to share to Google Classroom, share a link with students or share on social media.  National Standards for Civics and Government, as well as College, Career, and Civic Life are displayed.  In addition, teachers have access to discussion questions, an art activity, and further information, including more videos, about The Day of the Dead.  This carefully curated website is easily accessible through both desktop and mobile applications and includes transcripts as well as closed captioning.  With several options to customize one’s experience, including saving and organizing resources, along with managing classes and assignments, this is a great FREE tool for educators.

The Haring Center, part of the University of Washington’s School of Education, provides inclusive early childhood education programs on site while also being engaged in leading edge research.  In addition, they provide a wealth of opportunities for professional learning, including webinars, on site trainings, a speakers bureau, and reference materials.  Their work with the Washington State Inclusionary Practices Project Demonstration Sites, has added another layer to the already rich tapestry of resources.  Through their partnership with school districts and early learning programs across the state, The Haring Center has developed “Tip Sheets” based on the exemplary practices illustrated by these “demo sites”.  Individual teachers, grade level teams, and school-wide programs can access the materials here for free, or, when available, access on site training at affordable prices.

Resources for Early Childhood Educators

This website offered by the CDC provides printable checklists of developmental milestones for ages 2 months to 5 years.  Teachers can access the free training provided, titled, "Watch Me! Celebrating Milestones and Sharing Concerns" along with free print materials for developmental monitoring.
